St. Joseph's High School founded in Matigara in 1964, is conducted by the Religious Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross. The Congregation founded by Mother Marie Therese Haze in 1833, has been active in the sphere of education throughout the world, ever since its foundation.

St. Joseph's High School, Matigara aims at the education of the Catholic Community around, and extends its services to the members of other communities to the extent possible. The school stands for acedemic excellence, development of skills and character formation based on the love of God and the service of man as modelled in Jesus Christ, with a view to training citizens remakable for all round development and sincere commitments to God and Country.

The School has been instrumental in bringing about the liberation of the less priviledged people, especially the weak, the poor, the handicapped, the depressed and the rejects of the society.

The motto of the school, "Success Crowns Effort", burns brightly in the heart of every student as she leaves the school to go into the world and become a successful woman and above all, a good citizen.
