They call it the Gateway to the North - East. Comprising seven states, the 'seven sisters', the North - East is a region of high mountains, inaccessible ravines, fast rivers and dense jungles, only connected to India by the 22 kilometre wide 'Siliguri corridor'. Yellow and Brown civilizations have got their meeting point here.
A vital upcoming town, one of the most important in West Bengal, Siliguri is the nexus for some 11,05,640 people who live in and around it, relying on the city's facilities to connect them to the rest of India. This sprawling place is the departure point for visits to Bhutan, Nepal, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim and the North - Eastern states, and has boundaries touching Bangladesh and opening up Nathu La (the pass of the listening ear) trade route to China. Hub of Tea industry, this area has teaching, trading, timber and tourism as main business.
The right place to launch the activities of our organisation. |
